tour jitters and chicken coops

So our first big tour is coming up. It is Cycling the Coast of Sicily. Don't that just sound fun as all get up!? It certainly does to me. And I promise to devote a little more time to an better explanation of how what we do in the bike shop pertains to how and when and where the tours are actually taking place, as I know more. But for now, the lack of knowledge that I have is making me a bit nervous. So I got up early a couple days this week and dove right into the tune ups and bike checks. Which resulted in being ahead of schedule this week with prep-work. We have so far tuned up and made road ready about 22 bikes since Tuesday, and that's with us both taking a day off, and helping around the farm too. Not bad considering 22 tune-ups also included a lot of fixing racks to the backs of bikes, not an easy task on some of the bikes. But like I said before, its really zen like work for me. and I love it more than I thought I actually would. Here's a picture of the pile we have going for the tour....

The only other bike shop work we had today was the charge to figure out what was up with a bucket of tubes that has been around for some time. As I took each one out to unroll and inspect I had a better idea, why not fill them where they sit and see what happens. Maybe one will look like a clowns giraffe or something. What I got was a pile of powder coated, 23-30cc black rubber guts....

Kinda cool.

Tomorrow I start work on our very own chicken coop. We have decided its the best and most sustainable way to boost our overall cholesterol levels, while also getting a down wind scent of chicken crap in the bike shop. In fact it might be the only way to do both at the same time. In all seriousness I'm really excited about having chickens, and the late fall feast it will provide I'm sure will also be a scrumptious opportunity for another set of before and after pictures. Don't get too attached, I have given them all the same name - "food."

See you Monday!
