took the day off for some high altitude rad getting

A promising start...

and then up we go...

this monster actually jumped out of a tree to catch a bug. HUGE, like a foot long with the tail!

top of a grueling first climb there was a mountain church.

A long downhill and I made it to a park I have been to before, last year on an easy ride in late fall. Plenty of cold spring water, a place to eat, write, and stretch, with a nap time view of this...

then more climbing...

a little break

and more goddamnned climbing! seriously the day was over 1100 meters elevation but thats not the total, even the flats seemed to be climbing today!

but the views from the top were amazing!
Watch the video here, you can hear my exhaustion and low blood sugar...

Old ranch house on the top of the ridge...

warning of unruly bulls...

a couple more ball breaking hills and I started the descent to the car, 12 km of rocky twisty roads so fast I did not dare stop for photos, except for this of my beat up hands after only the first 3 km!

and the village at the bottom

back to the car, which was conveniently located near a cold swimming hole to ice my legs and back.

Drove back to the Farm and snapped a low angle sunset shot of this tree trunk someone pointed out to me when they were starstruck in Italy a month ago...

and paused from making dinner to snap the evening glow in the sky...

A perfect early fall day, on the bike, a scattering of snappy crunchy thin leaves on the trail, the crunch of dry dirt, sore, fed, and hydrated and ready for bed by 10! Super busy week next week, then the downhill slide to winter and the end of the season.
